How to Drink More Water and LOVE it

Are you struggling with drinking water and staying hydrated? Girl, get that together. I'm going to explain how I manage to drink more water and how I have come to LOVE drinking it.

Water is the elixir of life. If you’re not drinking water, what are you doing with your life? Your body is 70%+ water and it aids in all functions of your body. Water is key but unfortunately due to dramatic differences in access to clean water, many of us live without this beautiful fluid.

If you want to live a healthy life, you need to drink water. But I’m not here to preach to you. I’m here to show you how. I have found severals ways to help you increase your water intake and begin to LOVE water.

Drink Out of a Beautiful Water Bottle

Aesthetics matter. It’s hard to drink water if you’re drinking it from a vessel you don’t enjoy. This unenjoyable water bottle could be made of plastic, old, cracked, unattractive and a host of other undesirable qualities. If you want to drink more water, you must drink it out of something that inspires you.

There are several water bottles on the market that really beautify your water drinking experience and remind you that water is something you want to consume more of. I personally enjoy drinking out of a copper water bottle. Studies show that 99% of bacteria cannot live in a copper vessel for more than 4 hours. This is good news if you’re living in a place where the water is questionable or if you’re concerned with getting sick. Copper bottles kills all kinds of bacteria from e-coli to staph, and generally make water safe to drink after 4 hours.

I have travelled all over the world and drank tons of varieties of water. I always put new water into my beautiful copper water bottle and it has always been safe and enjoyable to drink.

Infuse Your Water with Fruits and Vegetables

Have you ever tried cucumber water? How about watermelon and lime? Strawberry and rosemary? It’s delicious! Infused water is one of my favorite ways to consume this delicious liquid. There’s something about adding cucumbers that give me a fresh feeling inside my body.

Infused water makes me feel refreshed and it stimulates my tastes buds. Infused water gives me a break from the same ol’ water that I perceive as boring and offers me a fresh spin on the water I drink.

Drink Hot Tea

For some people, a warm watery beverage is more attractive than a room temperature one. If this sounds like you, I recommend drinking your water as a tea. When water is boiled, it kills much of the harmful bacteria that leaves you with a not so delicious taste. I can tell when my water tastes funny from bacteria or impure elements. I find that when I boil my water, it tastes cleaner which makes me more likely to drink it. Drinking your water hot relaxes your body and can add a new flavor or sensation to your water drinking experience.

Switch it up! Try Matcha green tea, Earl Grey black tea, Chamomile, Peppermint, South African Rooibos and everything in between. Water isn’t boring or tasteless when there’s a tea leaf involved.

Buy Filtered Water From Your Local Grocery Store for Cheap

If the quality of the water is what concerns you, try buying filtered water from your local grocery store. I never said water bottles. Did you know bottled water is less regulated than your tap? The average tap water goes through hundreds of thousands of purification and testing processes before it makes it to your sink. Bottled water companies simply do not have those regulations. Reduce your plastic and instead buy a large reusable container and bring it to your local grocery store for refills. Nearly every grocery store in America has a water refill station that costs pennies per gallon.

I enjoy filling up my 5 gallon reusable container every week or two at my local grocery store for $2. Not a bad price compared to throwing away money every day or week on bottled water from a convenience store.

Make It a Habit To Request Water When Eating Out

One of my favorite ways to drink more water is to request it at restaurants when I’m out with friends. A good restaurant will bring you water automatically but at some restaurants, you have to ask. Many restaurants use purified water which can be cleaner and tastier than the water you have at home. So why not ask for water at your next restaurant trip?

When the serve asks you if you want to order an additional drink, simply say “no”. By only ordering water when eating out, you increase your chances of drinking it. If you order another drink like soda, alcohol or coffee, you’re derailing your opportunity to drink the water right in front of you. The less drink options you allow yourself, the more opportunities you have to drink the true elixir of life: water.

I hope this article has helped you. Which of these suggestions do you want to try?
